We are starting a new feature today. The ‘In Focus’ series will be putting the spotlight on designers, labels, sites and projects that support the Indian fashion retail industry, Indian weavers, related cottage industries, and the works.
Navigating the web for Indian retail labels with online presence and investigating their genuineness leads us to some truly obscure but brilliant labels, sites, and projects that we would otherwise never have known about. Since we are also new in the arena, and most of our work involves products from these sites, we thought we could do a dedicated series to showcase the varied talent and range we have come across so far. From high end labels like OUTHOUSE jewellery to the commendable Okhai Handicrafts project that helps tribal women, there’s so much that needs to be appreciated and promoted in the context of the retail and fashion setting in India.
Kicking off the series is the label BoMono. Designers Fatema and Tasneem collaborate to create luxuriously detailed accessories that are a sumptuous blend of traditional Indian techniques and contemporary tastes. In their own words:
“BoMono accessorizes the modern global woman with a feel mix of tradition and contemporary. Sketching in on their sartorial culture Tasneem and Fatema, with a fierce blend of prints, embroideries, vibrant colours and fresh shapes develop a range of Accessories denoting a luxurious and modern feel. They aspire for women to use their Accessories to transform their ensemble making them stand out!”
So far, we’ve seen hairbands, flat sandals, low wedges, clutches, and necklaces in their repertoire. Hopefully they’ll be covering more territory with time.
